“Thank you
so much again for the magic you worked with Madison & Shelby!
I still can't believe it, nor can our friends and neighbors
-- who just a week before our lessons saw Shelby (3) (forgetting
she wasn't wearing her floaties), step off of the pool steps
only to sink straight to the bottom! They also witnessed Madison,
(though 6 years old, having had only minimal exposure to swimming
previously) dog paddle for less than a minute before beginning
to panic and sink. WOW!! What a difference you made in just
6 lessons!! Over the past week after our 6th lesson, none
of us can get enough of swimming.
Seeing the
girls master this life saving skill has made my heart sing.
More than their first words or first steps, nothing has been
so touching as seeing Madison & Shelby SWIM in your pool for
the first time. Steve and I admire your well thought-out and
skilled style, teaching one thing and building on another.
Thanks so much for sharing your special talent with our family!

• Testimony from a
parent of a swim team swimmer:
“Sarah was a good swimmer that needed some fine tuning. She needed
help with her breaststroke and butterfly stroke. Working with April
helped give her the confidence, support and training she needed.
April's instruction is given in a very caring way. She continues to
support her swimmers after their instructions.
Sarah now swims with New Wave, so she won't need additional help
this year. I will let you know that she did her first 50 Fly at a
city wide meet. She entered the race as a "no-time" since she had
never done this event at a citywide meet. She finished, didn't get
disqualified and the other no-time swimmers were only half way done
when she touched.”

From the parent of a reluctant child:
"My four year old, Isabelle was very obstinate about putting her
head under the water. She was deathly afraid. April pushed her past
her fears and got her swimming with her head down in the water.
April also emphasizes pool safety which is great for anyone but
especially for families who own pools."

• From
the parent of a floatie dependant child:
My 4 year old son
could not swim without his "floaties" prior to meeting April Balch
at "Can Do" Swimming. Within 30 minutes of our first visit, he was
floating on his back and swimming to the bottom of the pool to find
pool toys! We were amazed at the progress he made during his visits
with April! We are planning a few follow up visits this summer so
that he can become an even stronger swimmer this year! Thank you
April and "Can Do" Swimming!

• From
the parent of a kindergartener:
After a few years of trying group lessons at the YMCA and realizing
my kids still weren't ready for swim team, I started looking for
private lessons. A friend recommended April to me and I saw an
immediate difference. My 4 year old daughter was very hesitant at
first but by the week's end, she was swimming across the pool alone.
She was ready for swim team! By the end of the season, she won "Most
Improved" in her age group. The one on one attention from April made
all the difference.

• Testimony from a parent of an
infant:
“Living in a city that revolves around swimming my husband and I
felt it necessary to learn how to deal with our 8 month old son in
the water. Mrs. April showed us not only how to hold him but how to
play with him safely. Even at 8 months old, she taught him how to
climb out of the pool while soaking wet! And he did it! We could not
believe our eyes; after all he’s just a baby. We loved the quality
time in the water with our son and a highly skilled teacher. I would
recommend her to anyone with a baby.”

• Testimony from a parent of two non
swimmers:
“I'd love to recommend to you "Can Do” Swimming. Both of my
children, a girl 4 and a boy 3, had a positive experience with April
and her American Red Cross-adapted methods. April's approach
included safety around water, and both of my children learned how to
get to the side of the pool should they ever fall in or get too
tired while swimming. But, as a former swimmer, what I appreciated
most about April's instruction was the way that she laid the
foundation for good strokes later. Her methods for beginners would
not need to be "undone" later when the beginning swimmer moves into
advanced stroke work or competitive swimming. My two children, very
different in personality (as are all children), both learned well
from April. My fearless boy learned to respect the water and
the potential dangers. He learned how to float, tread water, and
swim. He learned to breathe while swimming, so that he could swim
further. April capitalized on his energy and enthusiasm very
effectively while maintaining boundaries for him. My fearful
daughter learned that she really could swim across the pool without
Mommy in the water! April was especially gifted and patient with
her, and after a few lessons, she won my daughter over. I
appreciated April's firmness with my daughter's reluctance, never
allowing her to cop out of what I insisted she learn. The individual
private lessons greatly helped both of my children to learn at their
own pace and in their own way, and April's methods allowed for these
differences. That is something I have not observed in group swimming
lessons, and that is why we'll be back at "Can Do” Swimming next
summer!”

•Testimony
from the parent of a young toddler:
"Can Do" Swimming gave my child the confidence and
skills that she needed for success in the water!
Hannah began her first lesson at the age of 3 (barely)
and was swimming within a few lessons. She felt such
pride in her new found abilities, and as parents we
felt secure knowing that Hannah was safe around water.
We were so pleased with what Hannah learned from
April, that we sent her back for lessons when she was
4 years old as well.
